The kids-soup-kitchen was established by a German association and has been supported from the Harz region since 2018. On site, there are several volunteer helpers who make sure that children from the neighborhood receive a warm meal every Sunday. John oversees everything, as he knows his community well and keeps an eye on things.

The cooking is done on site, hands are washed, songs are sung, and of course football is played, or time is spent at the adjacent playground. The children come from the surrounding area and know exactly that everything follows a clear order. The youngest are allowed to eat first.

By now we have many travelers who not only bring items for the kitchen volunteers, such as backpacks or clothing, but of course also for the children. New sandals, T-shirts, trousers, and much more. Baby clothes as well, which John passes on to the mothers.

For many of the children, this is the only warm meal of the week. Rice, potatoes, vegetables, a bit of canned meat. We are amazed at how incredibly patiently the children wait until the small bowl is full.
