Hansjörg Hofer sets off with a group on his way to the Semien Mountains in Ethiopia. The children in Ethiopia go to school for an average of only 2.6 years. Only half complete elementary school.

The children. They work as shepherds in the mountains – without warm clothes. Most wear tattered T-shirts or an old blanket. In the up to 4000m high mountains the temperatures drop below zero ridge.

Ethiopia. An estimated 49 percent of the population is malnourished (year 2001). Not even every second Ethiopian citizen has access to clean drinking water – 58.1 percent of boys and 41.6 percent of girls between the ages of 5 and 14 work regularly. Several hundred thousand street children live in the big cities. (Wikipedia)
